Kishwaukee Fest parade winners announced

DeKALB – Four entries in Friday’s Kishwaukee Fest parade received awards – a new element added to this year’s festivities.

Miss Illinois Megan Ervin received the Outstanding Queen Award and received a plaque and $100 prize.

Honorable mentions went to Miss Chicago Scottish Heather Queen Annika Strolle of Downers Grove and Miss Lake in the Hills Samantha Bolet of Huntley.

The rest of the parade winners won plaques, which will be presented Aug. 13 at the DeKalb City Council meeting.

The Mayor’s Award for best community float went to DeKalb Boy Scout Troop 33.

The DeKalb Chamber of Commerce Award for best commercial float went to Resource Bank of DeKalb County.

Finally, the DeKalb County Visitors and Convention Bureau Award for best regional float went to the Miss Illinois Northern Suburban Pageant Float, where several area queens represented different age groups.

Sue Johnson was the parade chairwoman this year, and Kishwaukee Fest coordinator was Jacki Prusa. A 12-member Kishwaukee Fest board helped select this year’s award winners.
