Ontario Snow Adventure February 2002
This trip included three parts. The first part included sightseeing in Toronto, Canada. The second part was a dog sledding program conducted near Huntsville, Ontario. Groups of two Scouts were paired with a team of dogs and a sled. They then took turns driving their sleds through a woodland area. Near Bancroft, Ontario, Scouts watched the finish of a dog sled race. The third part of the trip included a snowshoe trip in the Algonquin Provincial Park. They snowshoed along a highland backpacking trail, highlighted by a moonlit snowshoe excursion.
Porcupine Mountains Backpack June 2002
This trip included hiking and backpacking in the Porcupine Wilderness Park of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Scout climbed the park's highest peak at Summit Peak. They also hiked in scenic areas such as Lake of the Clouds and along the Presque Isle River with it's many waterfalls. Their favorite campsite was atop a 50 foot cliff overlooking Lake Superior. They could watch the sunset from their campfire ring. A pair of Bald Eagles flew low overhead one day.
Mammoth Caving Adventure June 2002 This trip included four caving experiences, two in Indiana and two in Kentucky. The caving experiences in Indiana took place at Twin Caves and Wyondotte Cave. The two caving experiences in Kentucky both took place at Mammoth Cave National Park. One was a guided tour, the other a wild cave experience, where Scouts explored an undeveloped part of the cave, with helmet and light, knee pads, crawling and squeezing through some very tight situations in the cave.
